A lot of the people we see in our Bellevue clinic aren’t hurt sitting at a desk. They’re hurt skiing, mountain biking, hiking, or out on the water. If that sounds like you, it’s worth knowing that your regular health insurance may still leave you owing a lot out of pocket after an outdoor accident, even if you’re fully insured.

That’s where BLISTER+ comes in. It’s a supplemental injury insurance membership built specifically for people who ski, bike, climb, run, paddle, and otherwise spend their time outdoors. Some of our patients have asked about it, and it fills a gap for anyone whose recreation carries some risk.

What BLISTER+ Covers

For $595 a year, BLISTER+ gives you 12 months of injury insurance with:

  • $0 deductible. It covers your existing health insurance deductible, plus in-network and out-of-network medical costs
  • Up to $25,000 per incident. Per accident, anywhere in the world
  • Coverage for emergency transport and backcountry evacuation
  • Doctor-prescribed physical therapy

If you already have health insurance, check your card for your deductible (“DED”) or out-of-pocket max (“OOP”). That’s the amount you’d still be responsible for if you get hurt and don’t have a supplementary plan like BLISTER+ in place.

Outdoor Activities Covered by BLISTER+

BLISTER+ covers a long list of outdoor activities, including:

  • Skiing & snowboarding (resort, backcountry, splitboarding, heli, cat, cross-country)
  • Biking (mountain, gravel, road, BMX, commuting, e-bikes up to 750W)
  • Snowmobiling
  • Running (trail & road)
  • Hiking, camping & backpacking
  • Climbing (rock, alpine, snow & glacier) and bouldering
  • Canyoneering
  • Surfing, windsurfing, SUP/paddleboarding, waterskiing/wakeboarding, foiling
  • Fishing, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, snorkeling, scuba diving
  • Equestrian
  • Motocross/dirt biking (off-road only)

If a lot of these apply to you and you’re also dealing with pain from a past injury, take a look at how we treat some of the more common outdoor-sports injuries: knee painrotator cuff injuriestendonitiswhiplash, and sciatica.
