It may seem odd that injections with a needle would be used to control your pain. A needle poke itself is inherently uncomfortable for many people. So why does the field of Interventional Pain Management exist, and why do I use injections for pain management to help control peoples pain?

The bottom line is that in many cases, with a very precise, image guided injection with a thin needle, I can identify and treat the source of your pain. We call this the “pain generator.” Oftentimes, you may have pain stemming from one, very small, joint, or nerve, etc. By placing soothing medication around this irritated structure, we can achieve pain relief for you.

The advantage of this is that you no longer need to take medications that affect your entire body in an attempt to relief the pain in one small portion of your body. By stopping medications (if possible), you save time in your day taking pills, and almost invariably safe yourself from side-effects which are inevitable from pain medications to one degree or another.

The overall side-effects from pain reducing injections are surprisingly very low, much lower on average than almost any oral medication.
